Recommended Workstation Laptops

Laptops are generally not designed for graphics workstation use and most are limited to two gigabytes of system memory, if you need more memory then a desktop may be a better option. Otherwise there are a few options for a mobile workstation laptop depending on what you need one for.

Mobile 2D Mobile Graphics Workstation

If you need a laptop to do a lot of photoshop type work then your main concern should be processor speed, memory, screen preference. If you don't absolutely need to run certain Windows programs then an Apple Powerbook should be considered, photoshop has been known to run great on Apple computers.

A few PC Laptops that include 17 inch and 16 inch screens would be: Sager NP8890 (16"), Sager NP4760 and NP4780 (17").

Mobile 3D Mobile Graphics Workstation

There are very few laptops designed for 3D workstation use, the three listed below use the graphics cards mentioned in the Workstation Laptop Guide.

IBM Thinkpad T41p

• ATI Mobility FireGL T2 Graphics with 128mb of video ram
• Pentium M 1.7 GHZ Processor
• Thin and Light - approx 1 inch thick and around 4-5 pounds
• Up to 9 hours battery life with the optional Thinkpad Ultrabay Battery
• 14.1 Inch Screen

• Nvidia Quadro FX Go700 or Quadro FX Go1000 with 128mb of video ram
